Judge Ricardo Jensen's upbringing in a small farming community in southern Idaho and his mother's Costa Rican heritage have instilled in him a rich cultural background spanning two nations. Fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese, Judge Jensen is the first judge of Hispanic descent in New Hanover County.

Legal Education and Early Career

Graduating from Ave Maria School of Law in Naples, Florida, in 2013, Judge Jensen swiftly passed the Florida Bar Exam and began his public defender career in southwestern Florida. Judge Jensen continued practicing as a public defender for over ten years from Florida to Virginia and finally to North Carolina.

Continued Legal Service and Growth

On February 9, 2024, Governor Roy Cooper appointed Ricardo Jensen to be a Superior Court Judge in North Carolina's 6th Judicial District. Since then, Judge Jensen has proudly taken the bench every day, extending compassion and respect to the communities he serves.
